All About Claire
After spending over a decade as a technical writer in Northern Alaska, I chucked aside my mukluks, loaded
up my cats and relocated to a farm in Japton, Arkansas to pursue a career in writing fiction.
I had no idea there were places more remote than tiny, Iñupiaq villages with no road access, yet I managed
to find one. The woods of Madison County are inspirational and I have written several short stories that have
been published in anthologies. My novels, which I refer to as soul-searching snark, are filled with unique
characters-strong, bold women and knock-your-bloomers-off hot men. Sure they're flawed, but who cares?
Have you seen their abs?
If I ever run out of story ideas all I have to do is go to the local feed store, sit on the porch with the
tobacco-chewing farmers and soak up the country. Somehow along the way, this cat lady acquired four dogs,
eleven ducks and too many chickens to count. I live with my extremely tolerant husband and not so
understanding cats. When I'm not writing, I'm gardening, baking or thinking about making another quilt.
A FEW BITS ABOUT CLAIRE
I love to cook. I specialize in decadent desserts, but will cook anything.I've been known to fry up a squirrel
and whippedup a mean snapping turtle soup. Once. Never doing that again!
I'm a cat person. Never thought I'd have dogs, but now I have four. I tolerate them (okay, I admit it, I love
them!) but cats are sooooooo much easier.
I will read anything. Love it! Although, I have to admit that since becoming a writer, it's difficult not to
critique everything I read.
I'm a quilter. Doesn't that go with writing and cooking? Is it an inherited southern thing?
I hate canoes-a story only told after I've liberally imbibed copious amounts of tequila.
Favorite colors: Orange, purple and teal
Wardrobe consists of lots and lots of brown. Go figure.
Big fan of red wine and tequila-but not at the same time-another one of those embarrassing-moment stories.
Love snuggling up in a quilt, with a good book, in front of a wood fire.
Moved to Booger County, Arkansas to be near my family. What was I thinking?!
Places I have lived: Northwest Arkansas-in the Ozarks. Barrow, Kaktovik, Point Hope and Wasilla, Alaska.
Tokyo, Japan.
Places I have traveled: Most of the United States including Hawaii, the Northeast, Great Plains, the Southwest,
California and the South. Canada-Eastern and Western-none of the middle parts.
Asia: Japan, Korea, Saipan
Europe: Greece, Spain, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland
New Zealand
Places I want to travel: Scotland, England, Italy, China, Peru and Greece-again and again
When I win the lottery, I will:
Buy more land
Travel the world-1st class, of course
Continue to write
Support the local animal shelter so that they don't charge people to drop off pets. Drop off free-end
dumping-since our farm currently has 7 saved strays-it's a pet (bad pun intended) peeve.i
